College of HEST Dean's Finalists

On Monday, Feb. 28, the first of three candidates for the College of Health, Education and Social Transformation Dean's position will be on our campus. You are encouraged to attend the Open Forum session with each candidate in person or online. Resumes and “Webinar” links are available below. The second candidate will be visiting on March 3, 2022. The third candidate will be visiting on March 8, 2022.

The inaugural dean of the College of Health, Education and Social Transformation will have numerous opportunities to develop initiatives as part of the implementation of NMSU’s strategic plan, LEADS 2025. Enrico Pontelli, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, will chair a committee to advise NMSU with identifying qualified candidates.

Currently, Dr. Yoshi Iwasaki is Professor and Chair of the Department of Public Health and Recreation in the College of Health and Human Sciences at San Jose State University (SJSU) in California, with over two decades of experience in community-engaged research, inter-professional lifelong learning, and social transformation. In particular, servant leadership and DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) have been guiding frameworks for his commitment to shared governance and social justice, through stakeholder engagement and partnership-building that transcend the boundaries of disciplines, institutions, sectors, and communities to serve the public good for the betterment of humanity and inclusive excellence. Previous employments include his Professor, Director, and Associate Dean positions at the University of Alberta, Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the University of Manitoba.

John Moraros

John Moraros is an internationally recognized leader, scholar and senior administrator in the fields of health sciences, public health, epidemiology/health disparities and higher education. Dr. Moraros is the Dean and Professor, School of Health Sciences, College of the North Atlantic - Qatar. Dr. Moraros maintains an active interdisciplinary teaching and research agenda. In the past, Dr. Moraros served on a number of academic leadership positions, including: Dean, Faculty of Health Studies; Director, Centre for Critical Studies in Rural Mental Health; Director, Master of Public Health; Director, Graduate Education and Research; Director Research Integrated Community Action Network (iCAN); and as an Executive Board member for a number of organizations. He has authored or coauthored more than 50 peer-reviewed manuscripts in highly respected scientific journals and given more than 60 scientific presentations (both oral and poster format) in various national and international conferences. Dr. Moraros research is predicated on an evidence-based, community participatory approach, which leads to practical and effective public health interventions and utilizes culturally appropriate strategies to help address health disparities and social determinants of health by empowering minority, marginalized and vulnerable populations to take ownership of their own healthcare needs, services, and status.

Arpana Govindan Inman

As the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Education and Human Ecology at The Ohio State University, Dr. Arpana Inman is the chief administrator and academic lead for the college’s three departments serving approximately 6000 students. At OSU, she has focused on shaping the student experience through ensuring the highest quality and innovative academic programs and student services. A scholar, educator, and academic leader, Dr. Inman joined The Ohio State University from Lehigh University where she served as the founding Associate Dean for Graduate Studies, Chair of the Department of Education and Human Services and professor in Counseling Psychology. At Lehigh University, Dr. Inman focused on academic and scholarly excellence, supporting faculty at all stages of their careers, with an emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Dr. Inman is a nationally recognized scholar in the areas of South Asian immigrant psychology, international issues in psychology, and multicultural supervision & training. She is the past president of the Society of Counseling Psychology within APA and fellow of both the APA and the Asian American Psychological Associations.
